The game is changing and the campuses
The American Model College Sports Leagues, which not only made the American Colleges and Universities the best in the world but also the USA the nation best in the world in technology, business and sports is going to change the Indian campus life. The American College Sports Industry which started 171 years back with a boat racing between Yale University and Harvard University played a great role in making the American Colleges and Universities the best in the world by significantly contributing to its research and infrastructure development. College Sports laid the foundation of strong American professional sports at the top level and school sports at the grassroots. That made America the best in most sports and has developed the world’s most valuable professional sports leagues.
The College Sports Association (COSPORTS) is formed in Ernakulam under the guidance of the Sports & Management Research Institute (SMRI) to establish the College Sports Industry in India and to give the best campus experience to the students studying in Indian colleges. The four top educational institutional groups of South India, Ilahia Group of Institutions (Muvattupuzha, Ernakulam), Holy Grace Group of Institutions (Mala, Thrissur), Al-Azhar Group of Institutions (Thodupuzha, Idukki) and Indira Gandhi Group of Institutions (Kothamangalam, Ernakulam) are the founder members of the College Sports Association.
The College Sports Association will organize the college football league with 16 colleges coming under these groups. COSPORTS will also promote cricket, volleyball, basketball, esports, motorsports watersports, adventure sports, mass sports and heritage sports in the first phase.
College Sports Clubs, the sports startups
American College Sports nurtured the world’s top business leaders such as Phil Knight (Co-founder, Nike), Jeff Immelt (CEO, GE), Brian Moynihan (CEO, Bank of America), Samuel Palmisano (CEO, IBM) and Meg Whitman (CEO, HP). Reports show that 95% of Fortune 500 CEOs were student-athletes and among women currently holding a C-suite position, 96% were student-athletes.
The new college sports clubs starting under the guidance of the College Sports Associations will be functioning as a strategic business unit (SBU) and startups to give students hands-on experience in business management. It will infuse management skills, enterprising skills and leadership skills in students. It will also work as a great learning tool for MBA students and Engineering students.
New Hope for Engineering Students
The College Sports Industry will also enhance the employability of engineering students. COSPORTS gives importance to esports, motorsports, watersports and other sports that heavily depend on technology to impart maximum practical experience to engineering students. The students of member engineering colleges will be involved in the design, production, and maintenance of various sporting vehicles, sporting gear and sports infrastructure.
Employment Generation
The College Sports Industry is expected to create around 50,000 new jobs in the next 5 years if every college in India follows the steps of four founder members of the College Sports Association.
